The Earth and its ecosystems are our home. To achieve a fair balance between the economic, social and environmental needs of present and future generations, it is necessary to promote harmony with nature and the Earth.

Earth Day was celebrated for the first time in 1970, at the initiative of US Senator Gaylord Nelson, but it gained momentum at the international level starting in the ʽ90s. Since 2009, it has been included in the list of official days celebrated by the UN.

International Mother Earth Day is celebrated to remind each of us that the Earth and its ecosystems provide us with life and sustenance.

The GIF team wanted to celebrate this day through activities that show our love for Mother Earth:

NU TSANI GINCHEV, Bulgaria:

On April 21, 60 students and a team of teachers celebrated Earth Day. We all installed and managed the school’s green educational space together. The school’s flower gardens, the herbal oasis, and the barefoot path were started. This activity required great effort from the boys. After work, we drank tea, ate muffins and agreed to go to plant trees next week, we will plant a new forest.
