The project
As the world’s population increases and the earth’s resources are overexploited, the adoption of sustainable behaviour has become increasingly urgent. The Green Management In School For Sustainability – GIFs project aims to guide schools and their students on this path to more sustainable educational institutions where students can learn from these practices.The project involves schools from several European countries and a non-governmental organisation (NGO) with experience in non-formal education ( NFE ) methodologies applied to different types of target groups, including young people. In order to achieve the specific aim and objectives, the partners intend to produce materials to increase the knowledge of teachers, school staff and trainers on green building practices and provide them with methodologies to implement these practices in their premises and involve students in the process. The environmental challenges faced by this project are global issues that the partners intend to combat by supporting schools in developing and implementing green building practices within their premises. To this end, the Consortium is willing to act in the field of school education to provide schools with teaching materials and expertise to support the concrete implementation of the practices and involve their students.
The cooperation partnership project ‘Green Management In School For Sustainability’ (GIFs) aims to:
Objective 1: Provide teachers and school staff with knowledge about green building practices and methodologies on how to implement them in their schools.
Objective 2: Provide teachers and school staff with methodologies on how to raise students’ awareness on green building practices and involve them in the implementation process in their schools.
Objective 3: Promote cooperation between European schools on green building practices
Themes:
-Environment and climate change
-Community development
-New learning and teaching methods and approaches
The objectives are linked to the selected topics in that their achievement will help schools and their students combat climate change through concrete solutions to be implemented, improve the skills of teachers and school staff in green building practices, and support them in greening education for their students. .
To achieve the above-mentioned objectives, the partners will implement the following activities :
1 Guidebook on green building practices that will explain the concept of green building practices and collect existing good practices collected in the different partner countries;
1 Toolkit that will include some tools and methodologies to help schools engage pupils in green building practices and raise their awareness through non-formal education . methodology;
Joint staff training event for trainers and teachers to learn how to engage and guide their pupils/students in green management practices;
Local activities to test methodologies to start the process towards a green school building;
Creation of the European Green Schools Council where schools can brainstorm on new green building practices to implement in their schools;
First CESV Summit: the Council will meet to report on the practices implemented in this phase as well as the activities used with students and will discuss further green building practices and actions to be implemented in their schools, how to implement them;
Social campaign: teachers, staff and pupils will work together on a social campaign by posting short videos/pictures on Instagram of what is being done in the school to become Green Buildings and using a hashtag to be defined by the partners (e.g. #GreenYourSchool ).
